Website care & support

The unglamorous work that keeps a site fast, safe and current, plus a standing block of hours so small changes never wait on a quote. Run from Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha), for sites wherever they are hosted.

What actually goes wrong

Rarely anything dramatic. Usually something small that nobody noticed for six weeks.

A plugin update breaks the contact form and the enquiries stop arriving. The SSL certificate lapses and the browser starts warning people off. The site goes down on a Saturday and the first anyone hears about it is a customer on Monday. None of these are hard to fix; they are hard to notice, which is a different problem and the one a care plan actually solves.

Updates are tested before they go near the live site, backups are taken daily and off-site, and uptime is monitored so the alert reaches me before it reaches your customers.

What the work actually is

Hosting, maintenance and monitoring, plus hours you can spend on whatever you need that month.

Monthly — cancel any time

What you get

  • Managed hosting on fast, monitored infrastructure
  • Daily off-site backups you can restore from
  • WordPress core, theme and plugin updates, tested
  • Security monitoring, SSL and uptime alerts
  • A monthly block of support hours for changes
  • A reply within 30 minutes on anything urgent, in business hours

Good fit if

Nobody in your team wants to own updates, or you have been burned by a site going down and no one noticing.

How it runs

Monthly, cancel any time. You keep the site and the domain either way — nothing is held hostage.

Sites I did not build

Taken on after a short check of what is there. If the site is in a state where I cannot honestly promise to keep it stable, you will hear that instead of a monthly invoice.

What the support hours get used on

In practice, almost always one of these three.

  • Small

The change that is not worth a quote

A price, a photo, new opening hours, a staff member who has left. Things that take fifteen minutes and would otherwise sit on the site wrong for a month because getting them fixed felt like a hassle.

  • New

A page you did not plan for

A service you have started offering, a seasonal promotion, a location you have opened. Added in the same structure as the rest, rather than bolted on.

  • Fix

    The thing that broke

Usually caught by monitoring before you see it. When it is not, urgent things get a reply within 30 minutes in business hours.

What it costs

Monthly, cancel any time, quoted after a look at the site — a brochure site and a busy shop need different amounts of attention and it would be dishonest to price them the same.

Cancelling means you keep the site, the domain and the hosting account. Everything is in your name from the start, so leaving is an export and a handover, not a negotiation.
